what happened to good music?

What happened to bands like Pearl Jam, STP, Alice In Chains,
Soundgarden, Nirvana? I am not just stuck on the 90s, but those were
the main bands I would hear played on the radio. Music was different,
and it was rare that my radio station ever played a song I hate. MTV
actually played music videos and not retarded 16 and pregnant shows.
Now MTV plays Soulja Boy and Kanye the rare time they do actually play
music videos and that doesn't say much about the music industry. This
generation is a joke, all I can ever do anymore is spin a Metallica
cd.
